Much of these solutions are based on nano-silver, which is toxic for the human body. Identifying indigenously developed safe and effective antimicrobial alternatives to silver will reduce India’s dependency on external imports and broaden the range of applications for which these materials can be used, especially in the healthcare sector.
Copper has been used as an antimicrobial for water storage for generations in India. It is an essential micronutrient for the body, is highly potent towards microbes and works effectively at a wide range of temperatures.
